David is a fine art and portrait photographer located in Austin, Texas. His areas of work include High School and College Seniors Portraits, Models, Actors, Entertainers, Fine Art Nudes, Glamour Portraits, Custom Designed Portraits, and Dance Portraits.
David has over 15 years of experience as an avid amateur photographer before beginning his professional career in 1988.
Rather than following lines of traditional portraiture, David worked primarily with models to recreate the look of magazine photographers such as Francesco Scavullo, Herb Ritts, Marco Glaviano, and Patrick Demarchelier. Having no formal training in traditional portraiture, David studied what he saw in magazines and art books and tried to recreate lighting, shadowing, etc.The result was an artistic and dramatic alternative to traditional portrait photography with a heavy emphasis on dramatically lit high contrast black and white images.
Often referred to as “magazine style” portraiture, David’s fresh and unique photography style proved to be tremendously popular. It quickly became apparent that many of our clients preferred their portraits customized to look more like those found in fashion, glamour, and fine art books and magazines, rather than the work produced by traditional portrait studios. From there David began expanding his portrait work to include fine art elements. Studying the work of sculptors, old masters painters, and dancers, led to the creation of a style he refers to as sculpting with light.
The resultant blending of art and portraiture has provided our clients with a variety of unique and artistic images that expands beyond our glamour, fine art nudes, and model portfolio work. Our clients have a growing interest in tapping into the studio’s unique artistic style for more traditional uses such as professional headshots, high school seniors, and college senior portraits.
